Our 1-day Wilderness Navigation course is aimed at those who already have some hill walking experience and at least a basic understanding of the use of map and compass. Walking in more demanding upland ‘wild’ terrain you’ll develop your compass and map interpretation skills and consider what to do in case of an emergency in a remote location.
1-day course £78 (£65 + VAT)
Amongst other things you will look at the use of the compass, detailed map interpretation (including navigating by contour features), estimating distance travelled, micro-navigation and route selection.
You’ll also look at how to hone your clothing and equipment and consider what to do in case of an emergency in a remote location. You’ll spend the day walking and navigating through some stunning upland, wild countryside progressively developing a range of navigation techniques. By the end of the day you should be comfortable moving across open terrain, away from paths, feeling safe and knowing exactly where you are at any time.
